Let's start with the price?
It’s non-negotiable, Amazon wins: the subscription is 5,99euros for 3 screens, while for Netflix, the lowest price is 8,99euros for 1 screen and the price increases according to the number of screens.
Their initial idea? To promise to sell any book, anywhere! Incredible, isn’t it?
Who has the best interface?
Netflix interface: it’s perfect, it’s clear, it’s limpid, it’s beautiful. The interface is animated and communicative and adapts to each user. You can spend a lot of time scrolling through it and you like it.
Now, for Amazon Prime Video, we can say that it’s starting to get better and better, but sometimes it’s complicated to find the categories or sub-categories. So, we admit that Amazon Prime Video still has some work to do. This is a very important requirement for the users, it’s important that the platform is practical and adapted to our tastes.
Amazon is missing a little sexy and attractive side. This can be annoying for users, they might feel like they can’t find the content they like, whereas on Netflix, users can find what they like straight away because the interface offers the right things.

What about the creation of originals?
Netflix, especially on the series, focuses mainly on programs rather for teenagers (for example: 13 reasons why or sex education). Whereas for Prime Video, originals are more adult oriented (for example: The boys) which for us is an advantage. However, everything depends on the age of the user.
But it is also important to consider that original catalogue of Netflix is much larger than that of Prime Video. But, given that Amazon has more than one string to its bow, the platform is preparing for 2022 the Lord of the Rings, a series that Netflix is likely to apprehend.
What about the catalogue?
Our favorite is still Prime Video. Netflix, there are big movies extremely known, must-see movies, while on Prime Video there are films that are less big successes, but still very good movies. So, you can discover good new films.
But it must be said that Netflix has many movies that are part of the cinema heritage, many award-winning films, which is also an advantage.
Now, in relation to series, Prime Video is adopting a nostalgia-oriented strategy. There are TV series that have been successful (Desperate housewives for example), which again here appeals to adults. This is something that Netflix does not offer.
But to come back to Prime Video’ strategy, it offers you to buy or rent movies 4 months after their release in cinema, which is a great service. However, the fact that you can rent older films that are not in their catalogue could be criticized, it should be included in the subscription. Paying on top of the subscription for very recent films yes, but not for the others.
As you might expect, for us Amazon Prime Video is more suitable for adults. Netflix is of course very attractive, but in terms of content it is more for teenagers. Moreover, Amazon is still developing and improving, so this is a promising future.
What we understand about Amazon’s strategy is that it does not follow the Netflix model, but rather focuses on a different clientele and offers different content.
