There are 4 main live streaming platforms in China. Even though Chinese market is a huge market, the fierce competition exists between the platforms. Do people really like Tencent Video? With various choices, how do people perceive Tencent Video? I invited 2 friends for the interviews and got some interesting opinions.
I totally like Tencent Video! I’m a VIP!
Lin is a fan of LIU Yuning, a Chinese singer with handsome face and humorous communication style. She usually watches the singer’s competition shows on Tencent Video because it is played only on Tencent Video. “The advertising time is 60 seconds on Tencent Video, sometimes it lasts even more time and I can’t wait that long. With a VIP, I can skip the advertisement and I can watch more series because some of them are restricted only for VIP.” Obviously, as a 21-year-old girl, she is really interested in the new trend of social media and always seeking for new shows of the singer. She told me that she even voted for the singer during that period. When the show was uploaded on the platform, the singers would interact with the audiences, with a special speech bubble, the “danmu” sent by VIPs had more possibilities to be seen.
“I’m not a fan, so the videos’ quality decides my choice.”
Yan is a man who was born in Gen Y. “I work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. so I only have relaxing time after work. I need some meaningful movies so I choose Tencent Video. They have a lot of fresh movies and they are free at the beginning. But sometimes they are not always played fluently, hope they can improve it.”
Now we can see that Tencent Video has huge resource, but for those who have higher demanding for the quality of videos, the other platforms might be a better choice. Even though their strategy is to attract the younger generation, and they did good at the VIP functions, they still need to keep the other generations. After all, when families get together, members of different generations need to find a common topic of conversation.
